We
opened our clinic because we realized that we were just as interested
in what promotes wellness as in what causes sickness.
Fundamental
to our philosophy is that we no longer want to see segregation but
integration of modern medical practices with complementary and
alternative approaches to health care. We want to put our energy into
cooperation between our amazing ranges of disciplines to provide the
best possible outcomes for our patients. Wellness Medicine has pulled
together a multidisciplinary team that is committed to offering an
optimal blend of health care to fit individual needs.
We
accomplish this in several ways:
• We are accredited
Family Medical practice providing primary health care, which includes
sophisticated diagnostic techniques that ensure that any serious
problems are detected.
• We have chosen highly skilled and dedicated practitioners, combining Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Japanese Acupuncture, which stand alongside our high quality General Practice.
• Our practitioners have regular meetings to discuss clinical protocols and the management of specific clinical problems. This way we develop an understanding for the different perspectives of the various disciplines. This translates into being able to provide the most appropriate and suitable treatment for each individual.
• Our practitioners are constantly
updating their professional skills and our doctors strive to keep up
with the best of modern Western medicine as well as staying informed
about developments in natural and preventative therapies.
• As
well as educating ourselves as clinicians, we also place a strong
emphasis on imparting knowledge to out patients. This also serves to
promote a sense of empowerment and support to the effort that is
necessary to ensure ongoing health and wellness.
The
greatest reward for us is to see our patients restored to a better
state of health and wellbeing and more able to live a full, vital life.
At Wellness Medicine our core value is respect: for
the different perspectives of health practice, for our patients needs
and choices, and respect for their right to be well.

» Back & Neck Pain
» Postural problems

Reverse Therapy is a teaching/healing process in which it is understood that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia
are physical conditions caused by a dysfunctional hypothalamus (centred in the mid-brain) that regulates the individual's
relationship with the environment. It is part of a new worldwide movement towards therapies that work with "bodymind."
Bodymind is the intelligence of the body, working though the brain, the nervous system, the glands, the cells and the
immune system. Its primary function is to ensure the safety of the individual and to maximise health and happiness.
It communicates through emotions and symptoms.
Reverse therapy resolves the symptoms by assisting the client to
understand why bodymind needs to create them in the first place and what needs to happen to abolish them. The principles
and techniques of reverse therapy were developed by John Eaton in UK between 1996 and 2002 and continue to improve and evolve,
particular in relation to conditions other than CFS and FM.
They are based on the latest discoveries in neuroscience over the past 20-30 years.
Naturopathy
integrates the wisdom of traditional healing with modern scientific
knowledge to produce precise and effective treatment. It is a
sophisticated system of health care that involves much more than
replacing drugs with natural medicines. It has a distinct philosophy
based on the belief that the body has the innate ability to heal
itself, it aims to activate the body’s own curative vital force
to restore health and well being.
A naturopath will attempt to
identify and treat the underlying cause of illness rather than
temporarily suppressing or alleviating symptoms. Naturopaths use herbal
medicine, nutritional supplements, mineral therapy, therapeutic diets,
lifestyle and counselling and iridology to promote balance, health and
vitality.
Naturopathy can treat many common conditions:
• Conditions of the respiratory tract
• Stress, depression and anxiety disorders
• Menopause and gynaecological conditions
• Cardiovascular conditions
• Infertility and hormonal imbalance
• Disorders of the digestive tract
• Arthritis
• Skin conditions
• Recurrent infections
• Headache and migraine
• Weight control
• Fatigue
• High blood pressure/cholesterol
• Weight loss
• Fertility
Acupuncture
originated in China several thousand years ago. Other countries, such
as Japan, Korea and in more recent years France and India, have
developed their own styles based on the fundamental principles of the
ancient Chinese.
Acupuncture is an energy medicine, based on a dynamic systems model. Where Western bio-medicine primarily focus’ on material things
to determine disease processes, acupuncture concerns itself with the
movement of Qi, which can directly influence the proper function of
things.
Qi (“chee”) is the stuff that is at work
all the time in our bodies: breathing, heartbeat, circulation,
metabolic processes and even emotions are influenced and by (and can
influence) the state and quality of qi.
From an acupuncture
point of view, illness occurs when the movement of qi is stuck,
weakened or disrupted in some way. There’s a saying in Chinese
Medicine: “When there’s pain there’s no free flow. When there’s free flow, there’s no pain”
Fine
needles are tapped into carefully selected spots on the skin (usually
about 7 in all) that access the internal energetic pathways (meridians)
and activate and adjust the flow and movement of qi to the internal
organs (Zang-Fu)
Acupuncture, most simply put, moves qi.
FAQ
Acupuncture: What about the needles? Does it hurt? What can I expect?
The
needle (hair-thin, sterile, and used only once) is tapped in through a
tube, so you barely feel it going in. Once in, the needle is gently
manipulated until a momentary tingle or heaviness is felt.
Acupuncturist’s call this sensation de qi, or “the arrival
of qi”.
Generally about 7 needles are used per treatment. They stay in place for about 20 minutes.
The
number and frequency of treatment will depend on the nature of your
condition. For the most part, acute problems respond more quickly than
chronic conditions.
